Historic airport in the heart of Lappeenranta
Lappeenranta Airport is known as the oldest operating airport in Finland. Founded in 1918 on an old military camp site, the airport has served soldiers, general aviation and international passenger traffic with honour over the years.
Lappeenrannan ilmailun muistomerkki vuodelta 1978 muistuttaa siitä, että 10.5.1918 perustettu Lappeenrannan lentokenttä on suomen vanhin.
Lentokentällä aloitettiin myös sotilaslentäjien ja tähystäjien koulutus, vaikka toiminta kesti vain muutaman kuukauden ennen siirtoa Uttiin.
